Lifestyle Article - Allianz appoint new Head of Legal and Compliance

Allianz Worldwide Partners UK continues to invest in the wealth of experience across its assistance, international health & life, global automotive and travel insurance business, as it appoints Neil Travell as Head of Legal and Compliance. With proven expertise as a senior legal professional, being experienced in all disciplines required to lead a full service legal department, coupled with extensive knowledge of the insurance market, Neil is a key addition to the business.

Prior to joining Allianz Worldwide Partners, Neil was Legal & Compliance Manager for Euler Hermes UK (EHUK), also part of the Allianz Group. There he led the Legal and Compliance function in the UK and Ireland. Prior to that, he spent over seven years as Companies Registration Office Manager & Senior Legal Counsel for the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, which was established as part of the State of Qatar’s drive to make it a world-class business centre.

Neil Travell says of his new role, “This position offers me the scope to harness my expertise in leading the Legal and Compliance team in its support of the UK and Irish business. I aim to ensure the team assists in offering a first rate service to both our internal clients and customers in supporting growth in the UK & Ireland whilst ensuring that we remain compliant with our legal and regulatory obligations.

“In the short term, I will be tackling challenges such as Brexit as well as implementing the new GDPR, IDD and SIMR requirements. Brexit is particularly challenging; we are the sole intermediary in the UK for the French insurer AWP P&C SA (another member of the Allianz family) which currently passports in. We don’t know what will happen post-Brexit and we need to find a solution that will work.

We are looking into the available options with Allianz plc and the PRA. This makes it an exciting time to join a proven global leader andI will lead the Legal & Compliance team in supporting the growth of the business in the UK and Ireland.”

Serge Corel CEO UK and Ireland at Allianz Worldwide Partners UK, comments; “Neil has demonstrated expertise and in-depth knowledge of the legal aspects within financial services, insurance, and commercial transactions both in the UK and further afield, making him the ideal person to lead the Legal & Compliance team. His deep understanding of international law and compliance will be essential to strengthening the business through strategic expansion and development.”
