72% of people’s festival experience was negatively impacted by having something stolen or lost

Guy Anker, insurance expert at Compare the Market, says: “Ahead of Glastonbury and the summer festival season, it’s a good idea for festivalgoers to double check if they are covered on their home insurance in case their belongings are lost or stolen while attending any event.

“Our research has shown that more than six in ten people have had a possession lost or stolen while at a festival, with wallets (54%) and mobile phones (52%) being the most commonly stolen items. Despite this, 58% of people did not have personal possession cover, which can cover you for items you take away from home, with 66% thinking that they would not need it.

“It is not just spoiling the experience of the festival. Having your belongings stolen can have a significant financial impact with the average value of missing items coming to £368.

“Before attending any festivals this year, you should check if you have personal possession cover included in your home insurance. If not, it’s worth considering the various options available to you and what best suits your needs.”
