Last year the disastrous Greek economy made consistent headline news, and is still an on-going concern. This month, Traveling Actuary Eve Hartridge reviews the Greek Island of Kefalonia, where the attitude is very much business as usual. Posted on Friday Apr 27
Paris in the springtime has long been a romantic image brought to life by poets and song writers, so in keeping with tradition Travelling Actuary, Eve Hartridge paid a visit in early April. Posted on Wednesday Apr 11
This month travelling Actuary, Eve Hartridge takes us to the international financial centre of Hong Kong, One of the original East meets West clichés, and the world’s most vertical city, with the average office worker on floor 14 or above (don’t mention fire drills.) For many HK is the stop -over destination when heading to Australia; however you might just want to extend your stay. Posted on Tuesday Feb 7
I was recently speaking to a healthcare actuary looking to move to the UK from America. One of the things she liked so much about England in particular was the changing seasons; something that I take for granted. For me winter often means traveling to and from work in the dark, defrosting my car, and cold station platforms. For this lady it meant clear blue skies, drinking red wine and roaring log fires. It reminded me to always see the glass as half-full and to enjoy each day. Posted on Thursday Feb 2
Casablanca seems to be the place that everyone has heard of but not many people have been to. On a recent trip to Morocco Traveling Actuary, Eve Hartridge added Casablanca to the itinerary to find out some more. Posted on Tuesday Jan 10
To kick off 2012, Travelling Actuary Eve Hartridge takes us on a whistle-stop tour of one of the UK's best loved cities, Manchester. Manchester is probably the only UK city to have a 'scene' and has been instrumental in defining our culture of recent years. The music, fashion and sporting clubs are world famous; I certainly recall in the early 1990s Manchester was top of everyone's UCAS form. Posted on Friday Jan 6
If I had to describe a magical Kingdom it would be Prague, visually the city is stunning. You'll find gothic, baroque, cubist and ultra modern architecture sat side by side and all over-looked by the majestic Prague castle believed to be the largest ancient castle in the world. The journey from the Airport is an adventure in itself as you traverse post cold war suburbia you can't quite believe what you're faced with on arrival in Prague, the contrast is astounding. December is a perfect time to visit Prague as against the fairytale backdrop the old square is full of beautiful Christmas market stalls selling traditional wooden toys, colourful hand-blown Bohemian glass and many other unique gift ideas. By Eve Hartridge December is a month where we start to think about heading home for the holidays and spending time with our families. This month Travelling Actuary Eve Hartridge takes you back to the city where she grew up and calls home, Winchester. Posted on Thursday Dec 1
Jersey is the UK's best kept secret, This month Travelling Actuary Eve Hartridge extended her usual 24 hour stop-over to pick out the best bits for us. Posted on Thursday Nov 17
If the FSA was a holiday-maker, the very mention of the economically erratic Dubai would make it cower behind its parasol. This month Eve Hartridge visits the original East meets West destination to see what all the fuss is about. September is, in my opinion, one of the worst months of the year. Once you reach September the summer has gone, the leaves start to change, and we cling to that last hope of an 'Indian summer’; often in vain. This is the time of year when you have to worry about the seat on the train, the increased commuter traffic, actuarial exams, quarter end and simply not enough hours (especially the ever decreasing daylight ones) in one day. Solvency provision has been the hot topic of the profession for several years now across the globe. However, this month Traveling Actuary, Eve Hartridge visits that famous city in the middle of the desert blatantly sticking its “fabulous” sequined head in the sand over the credit crunch… where else but LasVegas!
