Pensions - Articles - Comment from Partnership regarding Nielsen retirement study

Nigel Barlow, Director of Product Development at Partnership, comments on Nielsen’s Retirement Study:

“Nielsen’s research clearly highlights that UK employees are waking up to the reality of the ‘new retirement’ where they will be less able to rely on the state, need to be more self-sufficient and may need to work substantially longer.

“Although it is good news that people are starting to realise that they need to play an active role in their retirement planning, there is clearly more that still needs to be done. Indeed, only a fifth of British workers expect to work until they are 70 but more are clearly going to need to do this.

“Building a financially secure older age can take a lifetime of careful planning. However, the time and effort devoted to reviewing pension options, managing savings accounts and shopping around for the best annuity seems minor when you realise that this determines your standard of living in a retirement which could be more than twenty years.”
