General Insurance Article - Mark O’Riordan to head Ecclesiastical's reinsurance team

Ecclesiastical has announced the promotion of Mark O’Riordan into the role of Head of Group Reinsurance from 1 July. His appointment follows the decision earlier this year by Andrew Jones to retire from the company at the end of 2014.

O’Riordan joined the group in 1982 and has held a number of positions within the company, most recently that of Group Reinsurance Manager for Catastrophe Risk.

As Head of Group Reinsurance, O’Riordan will report to the group’s Chief Financial Officer Ian Campbell and be responsible for leading the group’s reinsurance function. This includes managing the placement and security of all group general business reinsurance, recommending reinsurance strategy and providing assurance of the adequacy of the group’s reinsurance arrangements. He will also retain responsibility for the management and placement of catastrophe insurances for the UK and global exposures.

Commenting on the appointment, Ian Campbell said: “I am very pleased to welcome Mark into this role, which is critical Ecclesiastical’s long term success. Having been part of the Ecclesiastical team for many years, Mark’s in-depth knowledge of the company and his extensive experience and strong relationships within the reinsurance sector make him the ideal successor for Andrew.”

Speaking about Andrew Jones’s retirement, Ian Campbell added: “On behalf of Ecclesiastical, I’d like to thank Andrew for his 29 years’ service. He has made a tremendous contribution towards Ecclesiastical’s excellent relationships with its reinsurers and brokers, and has developing a team that will be able to continue the excellent work of the department after he leaves.”

A hand-over period between Andrew Jones and Mark O’Riordan will now follow until later this year.

Andy Moxey and Caroline Marshall will both also take on expanded roles as Group Reinsurance Manager, Property Risk and Group Reinsurance Manager, Casualty & Counterparty Risk respectively, with Jo Lawrence widening her role as Senior Reinsurance Technician.
