General Insurance Article - Statue of Liberty comes to Lloyd’s for charity art show

A multi-coloured Statue of Liberty will grace Lloyd’s in Lime Street next week as part of Lloyd’s Art Group’s Autumn Exhibition. Nearly 50 insurance professionals will be showcasing their artwork from Monday 24 to Friday 28 October at the Old Library. Aon UK Limited is proud to sponsor the Lloyd’s Art Group.

Susannah Hubert, Leader of Lloyd’s Art Group, enthused: “The exhibition provides both budding and established artists with a chance to display and sell their work ranging from quirky abstract paintings to masterful sculpture. Even better – the money raised from last year’s event helped to open The Artful Pelican gallery in South East London. The gallery helps disadvantaged or homeless artists find their feet again through therapeutic, confidence-building opportunity to carry on with their artistic talent.”

This year’s exhibition features Libertà a Colori from guest artist Silvi Micalizo, an Italian fabric designer, who volunteers at The Artful Pelican. The 170cm fiberglass Statue of Liberty is one of four made for a nightclub called The Liberty in the 1960s. Having been sold at auction, Silvi was commissioned to use it as a canvas and use her fabric artistry to create the piece with its illuminated torch.

Dominic Christian, President of Lloyd’s Art Group and CEO, Aon UK Ltd & Aon Benfield - Executive Chairman, International, commented: “Our industry colleagues in underwriting, broking and claims have exceptional skills and creativity that add another dimension to the market. Enabling the insurance and wider communities to collaborate is at the heart of this initiative, by promoting excellence in art and bringing together industry professionals and their families with a common passion.”

The Lloyd’s Art Group has been running since 1963 and is committed to supporting the insurance community by enabling both professional and budding artists – whether currently in the industry or retired – and their families to exhibit their work at a prestigious venue. With an additional commitment to charity, 15% of the art sales go towards the worthy Coombe Trust to support disadvantaged families and the homeless.

Please visit the exhibition with a Lloyd’s pass or email susannah@lloydsartgroup.co.uk to be put on the guest list.
