 “The announcement of the acquisition of MetLife Assurance Ltd by Rothesay Life Limited, underlines the commitment to the market by Rothesay, following Blackstone, GIC and MassMutual decisions to acquire significant shareholdings in Rothesay Life.

 “Having seen a bumper year in 2013, with the expectations of around £7-8bn of business being written, the bulk annuity market continues to grow, with demand increasing. The provider market has and continues to respond to this, with all providers indicating that they are increasing capacity for 2014.

 “MetLife is one of the major bulk annuity providers in the US. As one of the first providers to enter the UK market, they have been instrumental in growing and evolving the market, have secured in the region of around £3bn of liabilities.”
