General Insurance Article - Actuary Rachel Brougham, BESTrustees representative for L&G

Legal & General Investment Management Workplace Savings has announced the appointment of BESTrustees plc to its Mastertrust Trustee Board with effect from 1 April 2015. BESTrustees join Pitmans Trustees Limited as the second fully independent professional trustee company to join the Mastertrust board and will be represented by Rachel Brougham.

Brougham is a qualified actuary with more than 25 years’ service in the pensions industry. Her experience encompasses advising both DB and DC trustee boards and the governance committees of various contract-based DC arrangements through which she has built up a detailed knowledge of the regulatory environment. She has led a number of national initiatives including pension fund governance (both DB and DC) and pensions automatic enrolment.

“Today, our Mastertrust serves more than a quarter of a million members and has more than £1.1 billion in assets, but we anticipate substantial future growth. Coupled with the increasingly complex regulatory and legislative backdrop we face, it’s essential that we continue to expand our experience and knowledge base,” commented Paul Trickett, the independent chairman of Legal & General Trustees Limited.

“We’re delighted to appoint BESTrustees to the Mastertrust and, in particular, to welcome Rachel Brougham who will be a great asset to us and our members.”

Brougham will also join Legal & General’s Independent Governance Committee whose membership mirrors that of the Mastertrust Trustees.
