Pensions - Articles - August update for the Pension Protection Fund 7800 Index


Since July 2007 the Pension Protection Fund has published the latest estimated funding position, on a s179 basis, for the defined benefit schemes in its eligible universe.

 The PPF 7800 index is published on the second Tuesday of every month, and the PPF publishes The Purple Book each year. 

 August 2017 Update

 Highlights

 The aggregate deficit of the 5,794 schemes in the PPF 7800 Index is estimated to have decreased over the month to £180.1 billion at end of July 2017, from a deficit of £186.2 billion at the end of June 2017.
 The funding ratio improved from 89.1 per cent at end of June 2017 to 89.4 per cent. 
 Total assets were £1,524.7 billion and total liabilities were £1,704.8 billion.
 There were 4,156 schemes in deficit and 1,638 schemes in surplus.
