Pensions - Articles - Buck Consultant appoint new Head of Annuity Placement

Buck Consultants today announced the appointment of Peter Quinton as Head of Annuity Placement.

Peter will oversee the expansion of Buck’s annuity business, which currently works with Boards of Trustees, companies and individuals to advise on annuity placement, and whose clients currently include several FTSE100, Fortune 500 and other leading European companies. Peter’s role is to develop the offering for advisers and consumers, and, as such, he will be growing the Buck team in the UK rapidly.

“Peter has always been at the forefront of developments in the annuities market, and has driven forward innovations to educate and benefit consumers,” said Philip Smith, Head of DC and Wealth at Buck. “His experience, knowledge and drive will be invaluable in developing this part of our business, in light of the demographic and industry developments which are set to change the shape of the industry over the next few years.”

“This is an interesting time for the pensions industry. A combination of factors – the increased use of the internet, auto-enrolment and the Retail Distribution Review, amongst others – is changing how retirees are researching and purchasing their annuities,” said Quinton. “This, combined with the continued shifts to money purchase arrangements, ensures a growing annuity market for years to come. I welcome the challenge of significantly growing Buck’s annuity business.”

Under Quinton’s leadership, Buck will offer the complete annuities solution, advised and non-advised, to cater for the whole annuity market, trustees, individual retirees or their advisers.

Peter launched the first annuity specialist firm in the UK, The Annuity Bureau Ltd, in the early 1990s as a telephone advice service. He subsequently spearheaded the drive to educate consumers on annuities. Moreover, Peter’s extensive knowledge and expertise of the annuities market has often helped to shape decisions made by the Department of Work and Pensions and government, on pension reform.

Previously, Peter was non-executive director of Challenger Life, a director of AIFA, a founding director of Living Time which launched the UK’s first fixed term annuity and, more recently, non-executive Chairman for the Annuity Clearing House.
