Pensions - Articles - Capita Hartshead reduces carbon footprint with SMS and email

Members of pension schemes administered by Capita Hartshead can opt to receive routine communications via SMS (text message) or email, rather than by post. This service covers non-confidential correspondence such as acknowledgement letters and requests for information. The system can also send group messages, for example to remind members of an impending deadline – such as for switching contribution levels – or to provide general scheme information.

Paul Sturgess, Director of DC Policy and Product Development commented: “This is part of our programme of enhancements designed to allow pension schemes to take full advantage of the new disclosure regulations and increase member engagement. We can also offer automatic emails of confidential and regulatory outputs, such as annual benefit statements, into a secure member mailbox.”

Pension schemes can choose to switch to either email or SMS or a combination of both. Their members will then be required to opt into, or out, of the service.

Capita Hartshead already offers the option to receive SMS updates to members of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and is now rolling this out to private sector schemes. This service is expected to be of great interest to those clients who are looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint
