LCP and the Society of Pension Professionals comment on the appointment of a new Pensions Minister, Torsten Bell

Steve Webb, Partner at LCP, commented: "Torsten Bell will arrive at DWP with a deeper knowledge of pensions than many of his predecessors. In particular, his time at the Resolution Foundation included publishing a number of reports on pensions and savings issues which means he may well already have strong views on many topics.

“This should also mean that the time it takes him to master his new brief will be considerably shortened. His many years as a Whitehall insider also means that he know how to get things done within government and hopefully that should mean that the status of pensions policy within government is enhanced as a result"

Sophia Singleton, President of the Society of Pension Professionals, said: “This is a particularly important time for pensions policy with various consultations in train, Dashboards, Value for Money and other projects mid-progress and a much-needed pensions adequacy review having appeared to have stalled under the previous Minister. We therefore look forward to working with the new Minister to drive forward these important initiatives and implement the most effective, evidence-based pensions policy possible.”
