General Insurance Article - Ecclesiastical appoints new group compliance director

Ecclesiastical has announced the appointment of John Titchener as the new group compliance director. Reporting to group chief executive officer Mark Hews, John will be responsible for leading the group’s UK-based compliance teams with accountability to design, develop, implement and maintain an effective compliance infrastructure, and overseeing the group’s relationships with its regulators. He will also be responsible for further developing a strategic direction for compliance and conduct across the Group, to help realise its mission of combining expertise with the highest standards of service, integrity and honesty. The position is a new one, compliance having been overseen previously by the Group Chief Risk Officer.

John has over 25 years’ legal and compliance experience in financial services. He has held a number of general counsel, compliance and company secretary roles at Willis Group, GE Insurance Solutions, Swiss Re and CPPGroup Plc. John was called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn and studied corporate finance at London Business School.

Commenting on the appointment, Ecclesiastical’s CEO Mark Hews, said: “I am delighted to welcome John to the Ecclesiastical Group management team. He brings with him broad international experience and a track record of building and managing successful teams that deliver business objectives.

“At Ecclesiastical, we have always taken and continue to take our responsibilities to all our customers extremely seriously, so ensuring we have a strong director with a focused team in place to champion our customers’ interests at all levels within our business is absolutely vital.

“In addition to ensuring that our customers remain at the heart of everything we do, the compliance team, under John’s leadership, will also play a crucial role in continuously reviewing and improving how we conduct ourselves as a business not only to meet our stakeholders’ expectations, but to exceed them. We have set ourselves an ambitious goal of being the most trusted and ethical specialist in financial services and I am confident John’s appointment will take us closer to achieving this ambitious goal.”
