Pensions - Articles - How women can achieve retirement equality

With International Women’s Day approaching and in light of recent news surrounding the state pension age increasing for women, I thought you might be interested in Aegon’s Retirement Readiness Report, which shows that in the UK and globally, women are falling behind when it comes to preparing for retirement. The report includes responses from 16,000 workers and retirees across 15 different countries.

The report highlights the issues women face when preparing for retirement, across different generations, and looks to find solutions for women to better prepare themselves.

 The key findings include:
 • 41% of women (globally) do not have a retirement plan, compared to 33% of men
 • Only 21% of women in the work force believe they are on track to achieve their retirement income needs
 • Women are more likely to work part-time, only 33% of women globally hold managerial positions
 • The wage gap leads to a retirement gap with 38% believe the main barrier to saving for retirement is simply not earning enough to save
 • Millennial women are the least likely to be habitual savers (32%) compared to Baby Boomers (45%) and Generation X (39%)
