Life - Articles - Japan win the 2014 World Cup!

Japan have won the Life Expectancy World Cup 2014. With an average life expectancy of 84, they trounce all opposition, including a win over Australia in the final. England had a depressing Round of 16 exit to eventual winners Japan but did however top the group.

Hugh Nolan, Chief Actuary and staunch England supporter, JLT Benefit Solutions

"Great news! If England’s World Cup results mirror relative longevity, we’ll beat Uruguay and Costa Rica to qualify from the group stages. We’d even get revenge for the Hand of God if drawn against Argentina, though sadly we’d draw against Germany and have a penalty shoot-out… We might be OK as long as we don’t have to face mighty Japan too early in the tournament. Oh well. Back in the real world, our increasing life expectancy does make decent pension provision ever more expensive. Are the odds of a comfortable retirement better than the chances of Roy Hodgson’s boys bringing home a trophy from Brazil?"
