Pensions - Articles - Pension Protection Fund 7800 Index update for May 2017


Since July 2007 the Pension Protection Fund has published the latest estimated funding position, on a s179 basis, for the defined benefit schemes in its eligible universe.

 The PPF 7800 index is published on the second Tuesday of every month, and the PPF and Pensions Regulator jointly publish The Purple Book each year. 

 May 2017 Update

 Highlights

 The aggregate deficit of the 5,794 schemes in the PPF 7800 Index is estimated to have increased over the month to £245.6 billion at the end of April 2017, from a deficit of £226.5 billion at the end of March 2017.
 The funding ratio deteriorated from 87.0 per cent at end March 2017 to 86.0 per cent.
 Total assets were £1,514.2 billion and total liabilities were £1,759.8 billion.
 There were 4,391 schemes in deficit and 1,403 schemes in surplus.
