 Following the Office of National Statistics publication Estimates of the Very Old, Steve Lowe, Director at the specialist annuity provider Just Retirement, has commented:

 “It is common knowledge that people are living longer, but today’s data shows a 26% increase in the number of people aged 90 and over in less than ten years - that is an eye opening statistic. Planning for the provision of long term care will be a vital part of planning for retirement and old age. We fully support the Government’s plans for regulated financial advice in the Draft Care and Support Bill, and the creation of a national awareness programme. It is important people working now, as well as those approaching and in retirement, understand the true costs of long term care.”
