Pensions - Articles - Top consultant joins Mercer to lead growing DC team

Paul Macro has been appointed Head of Defined Contribution (DC) in Mercer’s UK Retirement business. Mr Macro will be responsible for managing Mercer’s UK DC consulting team and for growing this part of the UK business.

Mr Macro joins from Towers Watson, where he was a Senior Consultant, a member of the DC management team and prominent in developing the firm’s national DC strategy. He also worked on formulating the company’s response to the 2012 Pension Reforms (auto-enrolment). Prior to this, Mr Macro worked for Aon Consulting as Head of its UK DC Propositions. Mr Macro is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Tony Pugh, Head of Mercer’s DC business in Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Paul’s career in DC has spanned 17 years, positioning him well to take on this key role. The next few years will be critical in the development of the UK DC landscape, with new legislation, new providers and new solutions coming to the fore. Paul will provide the skills and consulting experience to help us deliver to clients needs in this rapidly changing market. We are very pleased that he has chosen to join Mercer.”

Mr Macro said: “I’m extremely pleased to be joining Mercer at this exciting time for DC pensions. The challenges of auto-enrolment and pressure from the Pensions Regulator to increase DC governance mean that there couldn’t be a better time to take the lead of a vibrant and growing team.”

Mr Macro’s appointment follows that of Gail Philippart who joined from Aon Hewitt on 9 January 2012.
