Global professional services company Towers Watson has taken further steps to strengthen its risk management capabilities and modelling expertise with three new appointments.

Laura Santori has joined at director level from Standard & Poor’s where she led the Southern European insurance ratings group and was also responsible for developing S&P’s assessment of insurance companies’ enterprise risk management (ERM). She has worked extensively with the CRO Forum companies and other market participants on ERM issues, and at Towers Watson will focus on advising companies on overall ERM frameworks and business integration issues.

Martin Pike, EMEA Managing Director of the Risk Consulting and Software business at Towers Watson, commented: “Laura has been one of the European pioneers of ERM in life insurance companies, having been closely involved since 2005, and will offer tremendous insight to our clients.”

In addition, Matthew Edwards has rejoined Towers Watson from Ernst & Young and will concentrate on developing the company’s expertise in relation to life underwriting risks, including the use of predictive modelling by life insurers. Adam Koursaris, who was previously with Barrie & Hibbert, has also joined to focus on the development and use of advanced modelling techniques to support Solvency II, economic capital and ALM (Asset and Liability Management) calculations.

Martin Pike added: “Expanding our consultancy offering further to address broader risks faced by life companies, and modeling approaches that support that objective, is an important part of our business plan across the region, so we are delighted that our clients will have access to people of the calibre of Laura, Matthew and Adam. “
