Pensions - Articles - tPR auto-enrolment enforcement figures comment from Aegon

Kate Smith, Head of Pensions comments: “The Pensions Regulator’s latest statistics show that employers, on the whole, are continuing to back automatic enrolment, by complying with their duties on time . This is good news for employees, as the employer contribution can make a real difference in helping individuals save for their retirement, and it simply isn’t fair if they fail to pay contributions that employees are legally entitled to.

“It’s good to see that the Pension Regulator has teeth and is using its powers to fine non-compliant employers, sending out a message that failing to play by the automatic enrolment rules is simply not acceptable.

“It’s not unsurprising to see an upward trend in the number of fixed and escalating notices given that that smallest employers probably have little pension experience and are unlikely to be turning to advisers for support. To avoid being fined, employers must make sure they start planning early, find out their staging date and understand what and when they need to do to comply with their automatic enrolment duties. All of this information is easily available on the Pension Regulator’s website and pension providers are also able to support those looking for further clarity.”
