Friends Life bike ride from John O'Groats to Lands End raises thousands for Macmillan

Three Friends Life employees have completed a sponsored bike ride from John O'Groats to Lands End to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan, Friends Life's chosen Charity of the Year, aim to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer through offering practical advice and support.
Marcus Gent, Tony Green and Robin Smith started their journey on Sunday 3 July in John O'Groats and finished on Saturday 16 July. They covered 945 miles in 14 days, averaging about 70 miles per day.

Robin Smith, Operations Director for Friends Life said:
"We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of many people. This is best illustrated by the lady who came up to us in one pub and gave us everything she had, £2.42, for the cause, through to the B&B owners in Hereford who contributed £50."

Tony Green, Actuarial Systems Manager for Friends Life, added:
"It was a fantastic experience and it really is a great way to see and appreciate the breath-taking scenery. Hopefully one day soon my legs will stop hurting!"

The cyclists climbed 42,000 feet - the equivalent of one and a half Everests - and raised over £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The money raised will provide much needed practical, medical and financial support to those living with cancer in the UK.
