General Insurance Article - IRM Announces 2011 Student Awards

The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has announced its top performing students for the past academic year. International Diploma in Risk Management Student of the Year is Karasachi Sylvester Nnadede, Health, Safety and Environment Supervisor at Total Exploration and Production, Nigeria. Top student achieving the IRM’s International Certificate in Risk Management is Karla Cruickshanks, Manager of the Client Engagement and Conflicts team at DLA Piper LLP.

The Diploma Student of the Year award, sponsored by consultants i-risk Group, provides the winner with an all expenses paid one week study trip to Turkey. To compete for the award, the students who achieved the highest marks in the examinations for the Diploma were required to produce a 1,000 word submission on managing the risks of doing business in Turkey in the light of the new Turkish commercial code. The entries were then judged by a panel consisting of IRM and i-risk Group representatives.

IRM Chief Executive Steve Fowler said: “We are delighted to celebrate the excellent achievements of these students, and particularly our first Diploma Student of the Year winner from Nigeria, reflecting a rising interest in risk management in that country.”

“We continue to support this award,” added i-risk Group Director Nicola Crawford “as it is important that risk management professionals realise the need for a fully international outlook and are encouraged to focus on the practical application of what they have learnt.“

Steve Fowler continued “Our congratulations go to all the award winners. We are very encouraged by the increasing numbers and quality of students for our International Diploma and International Certificate qualifications. The continuing success of these qualifications significantly helps our work to promote risk management as a profession world-wide.”
