Articles - Scottish Friendly strengthens actuarial and risk teams


 Scottish Friendly has today announced a number of key new appointments within its actuarial and risk teams. The appointments follow the recent expansion undergone by the financial services group and consequent diversification of products it offers.

 The actuarial team has been strengthened by the following:

 Donald Macleod – Head of Actuarial
 Donald has been appointed to Scottish Friendly’s executive management team after joining the group in January 2012 as head of actuarial after being headhunted from Hymans Robertson where he had spent the last two years. Prior to this he spent 11 years at Standard Life. A graduate in both accounting & finance and mathematics from The University of Glasgow, Donald hails from Stornoway. He will run the actuarial team in the Glasgow office, reporting directly to deputy chief executive Jim Galbraith.

 Cameron Burt – Head of Pricing and Profitability
 Cameron spent the last eight years working at Standard life before being headhunted by Scottish Friendly. He has joined the actuarial team as head of pricing and profitability. Cameron is originally from Forfar, Angus and has a degree in Physics from The University of Glasgow. Cameron’s Role at the company was created especially for him and he reports directly to Donald Macleod as a member of the actuarial team.

 Brian Tonner – Reporting Actuary
 Brian has been with Scottish Friendly since 1998, having previously spent seven months at Britannia Life . Originally from Thornliebank in Glasgow, Brian is a statistics graduate from The University of Glasgow. He reports to Donald Macleod as part of the actuarial team.

 The group has also appointed a dedicated risk manager to ensure that Scottish Friendly continues to meet the standards expected by regulators and to strengthen the oversight of the business:

 Graeme Dick – Risk Manager
 Graham joins Scottish Friendly after three years at Standard life. He began his career at Royal Bank of Scotland as soon as he finished school, going on to take both ACCA and banking exams. He served at Standard Life for three years before joining Scottish Friendly. Hailing from Motherwell, Graeme reports to the head of corporate services, David Elston.

 David Elston said: “Scottish Friendly will always seek to employ candidates who will make a positive contribution to the business. 2013 is set to be a big year for Scottish Friendly, so it’s important that we ensure we get the best out of our existing staff, as well as ensuring we recruit the best new individuals that will further strengthen the business.”
