General Insurance Article - Zurich appoints new Chief Underwriting Officer

Zurich has appointed Nick Major as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for its Global Corporate in the UK (GCUK) business area, effective immediately. He succeeds Mark Platten, who has decided to take a sabbatical for 12 months.

As CUO, Nick will be responsible for all aspects of underwriting across GCUK. This includes managing key broker and customer relationships, and portfolio management. He will report to Ann Haugh, CEO of GCUK and will be a member of her Executive team.
Nick began his career in insurance with RSA and joined Zurich in 2003 as a Senior Property Underwriter. In 2007 he was appointed Head of Property for GCUK and in February 2011 was made Head of First Party Risk and interim CUO.

Ann Haugh said “During his time with Zurich, Nick has demonstrated his ability to work across the full underwriting portfolio and as a leader. He will therefore make an excellent addition to my Executive team”.
Nick added: “I feel privileged to be leading such a dedicated and talented team. I look forward to the challenge of ensuring that our underwriting strategy has a key role in delivering Zurich’s plan for profitable growth in the UK”.
