General Insurance Article - Zurich on today's insurance fraud detection figures

Zurich responds to the announcement today by the Association of British Insurers of the latest insurance fraud detection figures, and the launch of the Insurance Fraud Register.Scott Clayton, Zurich claims fraud and investigations manager, said:

"Zurich fully supports the industry's national Insurance Fraud Register, and we strongly believe in embedding fraud detection measures across all areas of our business including claims handling, new business applications and renewals.

"We are providing staff with the knowledge and tools to ensure that all suspicious activity is investigated.

"We have a dedicated Claims Investigation Unit (CIU) whose role it is to investigate suspicious claims, gathering and sharing intelligence, as well as raising awareness amongst our employees, customers and distributors.

"We also have an established Underwriting Fraud team whose role is to ensure that the risk we insure really is the risk that is represented in the quote. Importantly, their processes distinguish the difference between genuine oversight and more serious misrepresentation."

"As an industry we are working together to stamp out insurance fraud - by writing better risks, we can price our products better, which will help to ensure all customers are paying a fair price for their insurance."
